Bad Habits Gin is made using 55% juniper – making it as close to a traditional London Dry as possible. The juniper itself comes from Macedonia, which is the largest juniper-growing country. Its rocky terroir allows for amazing juniper growth. Resinous pine, citrus, and fruity notes can all be found in juniper.

Hemp hearts – These are the nuts that are found within the seed of the hemp plant. Hemp is one of the most sustainable plants on the planet. It can be grown anywhere and turned into lots of different things – rope, clothes, plastic, paper… It is also a superfood with antioxidant properties, and also lots of protein and omega-3. The hearts themselves are super oily and delicious – if you’re not already having hemp hearts in your diet, you should start!

Harakeke – New Zealand flax seed. Harakeke is entrenched in Māori culture. Once upon a time, only Māori royalty could use the harakeke plant. The plant is used to make traditional clothing and used to be used to make the official cloaks worn by the royals, as well as the sails on the Māori ships that travelled across the globe. The seeds have got lots of medicinal uses – used in creams and hair tonics. Harakeke gives a wonderful mouthfeel and oiliness to the gin.

Coriander seed – We use NZ coriander seeds. These are a lot smaller than the traditional Indian coriander seeds and have got a much more intense, vibrant taste. These give off an amazing lemon flavour which backs up the lemon we use in the gin to bring a wonderful fresh, zesty finish.

Lemon peel – Sweeter and less acidic than regular lemons. The skins are thin and fragrant. We hand-peel and dehydrate Meyer lemons ourselves. There’s no pith on our peels, which means we don’t have those dusky, musty notes that you can get. The dehydrated peels give a beautiful, warm, marmaladey freshness to the gin.

Cardamom – Warm, citrusy, slightly minty spice. We use this very sparingly as it can become very overpowering, but with just enough it makes a fantastic addition.

Orris root – This is nature’s fixing agent. Again, used very sparingly, the role of orris root in the distillation process is to marry all the flavours and botanicals together. The biggest buyer of orris root in the world is Coco Chanel.

We also use licorice root and angelica root.
